Update 2 :  February 09, 2021

During the testing of the new pumps for the UBC Water Pump Station there was a release of water into storm drainage system.  The volume of water caused a surcharge, and the water made its way into the basement mechanical room in the neighboring Henry Angus building – filling a trench with IT cabling that impacts several systems on campus such as legacy security alarms, Telus campus DSL services, some legacy meter monitoring and an unknown number of client analog phone services.

  • Fire Alarm monitoring:

Due to the issues with the analog phone lines, some of the building’s fire alarm systems’ signal to the fire department is not functioning correctly. The fire alarm systems are fully functional and will sound if required.

In the event the fire alarm activates in your building:

  1. Evacuate
  2. Call 911 and direct the fire department to your building address
  3. If possible, call Service Centre 604-822-2173 to report the alarm

Signage will be posted at each building if the systems are not restored imminently.

  • Elevators:

Some of the elevator car phones may not be working. Our staff are still testing them to confirm which ones are not operational. As a precaution building administrators could limit the use of the elevators or ensure there is a means of contacting someone in the event of an elevator entrapment- mobile, radio, “buddy system” or frequent elevator supervision.

All calls should be directed to:

  1. Service Centre 604-822-2173
  2. Campus Security 604-822-2222
  3. Or 911 if you have an emergency health issue
  • Clocks:

Please refrain from reporting clock trouble calls until such time that the phone lines have been restored. They should correct on their own once that has occurred.

We will provide updates as we receive them.
