Reason: A train derailment near Banff caused a fiber cut to the
primary BCNET and CANARIE link to Alberta. Repair work
has completed and impacted services are verified to be
back in operation. The lengthy repair time was due to the
remote location, bridge collapsing, and extreme weather.
Effects: All CANARIE and Research Network routed traffic automatically
transferred to backup links. CANARIE Peering Services were
not impacted during this time.
The directly impacted lightpath circuit users received regular
updates on progress including the following organizations:
