Potential Data Loss as a Result of Connect Service Disruption – June 13, 2014

As a result of the service disruption that occurred on Friday, June 13, 2014 we were required to restore Connect from a backup of the application taken prior to the time the incident occurred. Unfortunately, this means that any activity conducted in the system between 1:15 pm and 5:00 pm on Friday has been lost.

We understand that this will have an impact on students and instructors and apologize for the disruption to teaching and learning that has occurred as a result of this issue.

Students: If you completed an activity in a course (discussion posting, assignment upload, quiz, etc.) between 1:15 pm and 5:00 pm on Friday, if possible, attempt to complete the activity again. If it is not possible for you to do so (due to a passed deadline, lost work, etc.) please contact us by sending an email to connect-admin@it.ubc.ca. In that email please include:

1. The course you were working in.
2. Your student number and name
3. The type of activity you completed in that course

Once we receive this information we will investigate to determine if it can be recovered. We will do what we can to recover data manually, though there may be limitations.

Instructors: If you hear from your students that they completed an activity in your course after 1:15 pm on Friday and the data has been lost, please contact us by emailing connect-admin@it.ubc.ca. Please include the impacted course and the name(s) of the impacted students. If you were working in your course on Friday afternoon and made significant changes to course materials or structures that work may also have been lost. If that is the case, please let us know and we will attempt to recover that work from the database.
