On February 13th 2013 at approximately 9:00am, the FASmail service began exhibiting performance issues that appear to be related to the recently reported issue with iOS 6.1.x devices connected to Exchange. Here is an article on the issue for more information:
The Email team took steps to address the reported issue by implementing a recommended throttling policy on all iOS 6.1.x devices. Although service was restored, there have been a number of subsequent issues reported that were likely caused by the problem experienced earlier in the day. This includes OWA errors, access to the Out of Office feature in Outlook, Free/Busy Lookup, Outlook setup, Mac email client issues and some Outlook connection issues. Some users have also reported intermittent issues with the BES service. The Email team has been working with Microsoft to address these issues.
Although the issues appear to have been resolved at 5pm today, all FASmail servers will be restarted between 11:30pm and 1:00am to empty queues and address remaining issues that may have resulted from today’s problems. As a result, FASmail users will experience a service interruption of 15 – 30 minutes. Blackberry users will experience an outage for the full outage window.
The team will update the service bulletins website (https://bulletins.it.ubc.ca) as new information becomes available.
