Change to Exchange Spam Management September 18, 2008 9:00 – 9:30

To better manage the amount of spam directed at the Exchange service we will be making following changes to the Exchange Spam management on Thursday September 18th at 9:00am.

• Spam rejection level will be changed from 99% to 80%.

• Automatic deletion of messages in the “Junk E-mail” folder older than 31 days.

Due to technical reasons, spam directed at aliases will not be rejected – even if it meets the criteria of having a spam rating of 80% or higher. In the unlikely event that a legitimate message is blocked, the sender will receive the following response from the mail relays.

SPAM message rejected: Your message was blocked by UBC (Spam). See for assistance.

The new automatic deletion policy will eliminate the need for users to manually purge messages in the “Junk E-mail” folder. This will also help with reducing the growth of the Exchange Mailbox Stores.

Please contact your departmental Exchange administrator if you have any questions or concerns about these changes to the Exchange Spam management.
