Monitoring - We have been able to restore the network connectivity to the affected servers as of 14:00 PT.

The Remote Lab service, MATLAB Licensing Server, and Remote Desktop Server should be fully functional.

Currently, UBC IT technicians are monitoring the status to ensure no further issues.

Investigating - We are currently experiencing intermittent network issues, impacting the Remote Lab service, MATLAB Licensing Server, and Remote Desktop Server.

The Remote Lab service was resolved at 13:30 PT.

The MATLAB Licensing Server, and Remote Desktop Server (RDS), are still being investigated. Users may not be able to obtain MATLAB licenses, or connect to the RDS Service, during this time.

UBC IT technicians are currently investigating the issue.

Identified - Dear UBC Licensed Zoom User,

Zoom recently posted a security bulletin regarding a critical vulnerability in their Zoom Desktop Client for Windows. As such, we are asking users to update their clients to the latest version.

Additionally, to align with Information Security Standard M5 “Vulnerability Management,” a mandatory minimum client version of 5.16.5 will be implemented on all UBC licensed Zoom accounts on February 23, 2024. This mandatory minimum client version will apply to all platforms, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.

After February 23, if you are running a client version older than 5.16.5, you will be asked to update the next time you log in to the Zoom client or the next time that you attempt to join a meeting or webinar if you are already logged in. The update must be completed before you can join.

To avoid disruptions, we strongly recommend updating your mobile and desktop clients to the mandatory minimum version prior to February 23. If you receive a prompt to update via the client prior to February 23, please proceed. Please note that the mandatory minimum version requirement will not be enforced on Zoom users external to UBC that are joining your meeting or webinar.

Monitoring - A workaround has been put in place for this issue. This issue only impacts users who are obtaining a MATLAB license for the very first time (existing MathWorks account holders renewing licenses are not affected). Identified - UBC IT has identified the issue and is working with the vendor on a workaround. Existing MathWorks account holders are not affected and are able to obtain MATLAB licenses.

Investigating - Some users are experiencing issues creating a new MathWorks account, which is required to obtain a MATLAB license. Users experiencing the issue are unable to create the MathWorks account even after using a UBC email address. UBC IT is investigating the issue with the vendor.

Scheduled Maintenance
On September 27, 2023, UBC IT will be decommissioning UBC’s secondary Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, myvpn2.ubc.ca. This service was initiated in 2020 to accommodate for increased demand of VPN when the University rapidly moved to remote teaching, learning and research due to Covid. With the increased capacity of UBC’s main VPN service (vpn.ubc.ca), and the current situation of UBC operating with in-person classes, myvpn2 is no longer required.

If you are currently using the secondary VPN, myvpn2.ubc.ca, please switch your AnyConnect client to UBC’s main VPN, myvpn.ubc.ca to continue connecting remotely. Instructions on how to connect to UBC’s main VPN can be found at https://it.ubc.ca/services/email-voice-internet/myvpn/how-access-myvpn

Any changes to course enrollments in Canvas will be queued up accordingly and processed after the maintenance. The LTPS User Interface will not be available to instructional support staff and other departmental administrators during the maintenance window.

The Campus Wide Login (CWL) Web Services will be undergoing IRP Student functionality updates on April 5, 2024, 08:00-12:00 PT.

An active session of CWL myAccount, CWL SignUp, and CWL Admin web applications may be interrupted requiring a restart of the browser.

AccessUBC and Sponsored Guest web application will be undergoing IRP Student functionality updates on April 5, 2024, 10:00 PT to April 7, 2024 16:00 PT.

There will be no service interruption for users for the duration of the maintenance with the exception of April 5, 2024, 10:00-10:30 PT where users may be prompted for re-authentication to AccessUBC.

Scheduled - The Cisco AnyConnect software used to access UBC's Virtual Private Network (myvpn.ubc.ca, and myvpn.ok.ubc.ca) on Windows, MacOS and Linux will be upgraded to the latest version on March 7, 2024 from 17:30-18:30 PT. The new software will automatically prompt users to upgrade the next time they launch their current version of AnyConnect and sign onto myvpn.ubc.ca and myvpn.ok.ubc.ca.
No reboot is required.

Scheduled - This evening the wireless client certificate for UBC wifi networks will be updated. There is no expected downtime, and for most users the change is expected to be transparent.
There should be no need to reconfigure using Autoconnect.

However, some devices may not automatically reconnect, and in some cases may see a prompt to trust the new certificate.

If the devices do not automatically connect, simply click on the network you wish to connect to in your Wi-Fi settings.

If a message pops up asking to trust the certificate:
1. Click on “Show Certificate”
2. Confirm that the organization is “The University of British Columbia”
3. Confirm the name of the certificate is “secure.wireless.ubc.ca”
4. Confirm the root certificate is “DigiCert Global Root CA”
5. If all of the above is correct, click “Continue” and the device should connect
