On July 17th, 2018, UBC IT will be implementing a new email blocking rule for .SLK (symbolic link) files for all messages that pass through the UBC mail-relays, including UBC’s Faculty and Staff email (FASmail).
After this date, people who attempt to send a message through FASmail with an .SLK file attached will receive an error message. The error message will explain what has occurred to the person sending the message, and how to send the attachment, if it is legitimate. For emails containing a blocked file sent outside of FASmail, the email will be silently dropped with no notification to the sender.
For more information about this block, please login to the UBC Cybersecurity Confidential Communications (CC) website at https://cc.cybersecurity.ubc.ca/?p=2418.
