Fraudulent Email Alert October 5, 2009

Fraudulent emails directing users to submit email account information have been reported. UBC IT never requests username and passwords to be sent via email. Do not reply or give any account information. Instead, please forward a copy of the email including full headers to security@ubc.ca and then delete it from your Inbox or mobile phone. If you did respond to the email, go to myAccount and change your password as soon as possible.

For your reference, the fraudulent email text is included below:

Subject: Dear ubc.ca User
Reply-To: accountaccess@9.cn

Dear ubc.ca User,

We would like to inform you that we are currently carrying out scheduled
maintenance and upgrade of our ubc.ca webmail service and as a result
of this our ubc.ca client has been changed and your original password
will reset. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

To maintain your ubc.ca account, you must reply to this email immediately
and enter your current Password here (******). Failure to do this within 48
hours will immediately render your ubc.ca account deactivated from our database.

Thank you for using the ubc.ca account!
