On Tuesday, June 23rd 2009 between 10:00am and 3:00pm, the MAPS spam block list service used by the UBC mail relays will be replaced with the Spamhaus spam block list service.
All messages blocked by the Spamhaus service will be returned to the originating mail server with an indication that the message was blocked by Spamhaus. It will also include a link to the website below for more information.
The following external website will be updated soon to reflect the implementation of this new service: http://www.it.ubc.ca/emailblock.html
Since the mail relays will be using a new service for spam management, you may see a change in the number of spam messages received in your mailbox. Please keep in mind that this service is used in conjunction with Sophos PureMessage which also blocks or tags a large majority of spam before it reaches your mailbox.
No outage is expected as a result of this change.
